[This is a guest post by the fabulous Khadijah at The Fit Hijabi. In this piece, she clears up the most controversial Qur’an verses (Ayaat) that many people use to prove their (false) belief that Islam is a religion of hatred. This couldn’t be farther from the truth!]

“The Koran clearly states that it contains two types of verses: context-independent verses, and context-dependent verses.

Context-independent verses are unambiguous and timeless principles which can be applied in every situation.

Context-dependent verses are those that are specific to particular situations, and can’t be read in isolation.

The Koran then goes on to condemn those who cherry-pick verses to suit their own selfish ends, and tells its reader to take all the verses together before coming to any conclusions.

“Peace” is one of the literal meanings of Islam, and its ultimate aim. And as such, it explicitly teaches that there is no compulsion in matters of faith.

In light of resolution season, I decided now would be the perfect  time to write about 5 Powerful Morning habits that I think everybody could benefit from adopting. I’ve seen these practices skyrocket not only my productivity but also my motivation for my work and general happiness. The Value of Intentions

Nobody is immune from making mistakes. We err daily with varying intensities and consequences.  If we were to face the retributions of every mistake we make, we would all be living in Dante’s eighth circle of hell.
I think that many people skeptical of religion envision an angry God who punishes humans for every earthly mistake. There are also many who identify as religious that share a similar image of God. Living in such intense fear can be incredibly inhibitory to one’s life and their relationship with God.
The blind fear I used to possess barred me from truly optimizing the relationship I could have had with God. Liberation from falsities in my perception of Our Creator enhanced my relationship and closeness to Him. I now am confident in the persistent love God gives us, the Mercy He bestows on us, and the Faith He has in us to constantly improve and better ourselves in His Vision.

Though we are and should be held accountable for our actions, God is a loving and merciful Creator who embraces us as flawed.

Seasonal Produce Guide

One of my goals this year is to cook more and expand my selections of produce that I use in meals. Although we all intuitively know that it is far better for us to buy seasonal produce, the year round convenience and presence of produce found at grocery stores makes it easy to forget what even is in season and what is best to buy when.

Eating seasonally not only enhances the taste of the produce, but it increases the nutritional value of the crop while decreasing the need for preservatives and other unnatural additives. Produce that is in season is also cheaper, which is of course a huge plus.

5 Minute Strategy – Creating Sustainable Goals this New Year

Making sustainable goals this New Year… is that even possible? During this time of the year, we feel obligated to conjure up abstract goals to use in response to the inescapable question of “SO- what’s YOUR New Years resolution?” Regardless of how resolute you are, it seems like most everyone falls victim to the one month-and-done resolution success. I think that this is because we create goals and resolutions that aren’t compelling enough. We lack sustainable motivation when we try to accomplish something that doesn’t mean much to us.

This realization led me to come up with a three step, 5 minute sustainable goal mapping strategy that channels a deep spiritual connection to the goals we make.

A: 80% of it is networking and building a social media presence!

A: Being told by readers that the advice on my blog genuinely changed their perspective on something/made them understand something they never did.
